20 illustrators from all around the UK have submitted artwork based on womxn that inspire them. Focusing on showcasing artists and their work, while simultaneously uplifting and recognising inspirational womxn.

Alongside the print exhibition Bristol based artist Katie Fishlock is celebrating the pursuits of pleasure and erotica in her inaugural exhibition. Featuring both large-scale vinyl paintings and works on canvas she muses upon the delights of sexual pleasures. Both provocative and playful, she is also challenging the boundaries of portraying sexuality and being a womxn in this often complex world.

Artists were invited to create work about womxn that inspired them.

“I’ve dedicated this drawing to all the incredible womxn in my life, as they are my biggest source of inspiration! To me, the idea of ‘womxn supporting womxn’ is crucial to navigating everyday life. Whether it’s to nurture, empower or inspire, having that support system helps to create a sense of peace/joy within yourself and the community — even when the world feels chaotic.

My female friendships in particular influence my practice, whether they realise it or not, by helping to shape the emotional nature of my work. Through them, what I create inspires to give a sense of belonging, happiness and guidance — just as they provide for me.”

The entire collection of print work is available in The Carousel x IWD Anthology, 2021

The anthology of Risograph prints celebrates illustrators and showcases the womxn that inspire them whilst raising money for the Young Women’s Trust.
Young Women’s Trust is a charity that offers support to young women aged 18-30 who are living on low or no pay and want to build a better future for themselves.

Inside the anthology, you will find the work of twenty illustrators based all around the UK. Ranging from Mothers to Grandmothers, Writers to Artists, and Performers to romanticised stories of womxn in Medieval society, all the artists have explored different womxn who have inspired their practice.

They encourage you to display the creator’s work in your home, pass on their work to your friends and family, and to share their stories.
