3D Virtual Exhibition Tour

Over 12 million people in the United Kingdom have a criminal record. Although many have had only minor interactions with the Criminal Justice System, the stigma associated with a criminal record has a long-lasting and far-reaching impact on day-to-day life – including, but not limited to access and participation in Higher Education. Research has shown that despite a growing recognition of the value of education in supporting people to move away from criminal behaviour, universities continue to be an unwelcoming place for people with a criminal record. Despite efforts to widen participation in Higher Education, the gap between what universities could be doing and what they are doing to support students with a criminal record is significant.

Building on our research with university students across England and Scotland who have a criminal record, this Project Lab draws on the power of visual storytelling to enhance understanding and challenge misrepresentations. We hope you enjoy exploring this space; interpreting the stories and connecting with the experiences in a way that is meaningful to you. In doing so we urge you to think about your life experiences, challenges and successes that contribute to your stories. After all, we are all more than one story, right?
