FORMAT is the UK’s leading international festival of contemporary photography with a yearly programme of commissions, open calls, residencies, conferences and collaborations. The biennale festival and off year programmes celebrate a wealth of contemporary practice featuring conceptual works, participative projects, documentary and all that falls between. Concerned with what is happening right here, right now in the scene and beyond, FORMAT is the place to engage with new work alongside the best practitioners in the world, focused on developing opportunities for audiences to see, contribute to and participate in the best of what photography is and can be, with professional practice programmes and a yearly International Portfolio Review.

FORMAT is organised by QUAD and DMARC (University of Derby), supported by ACE and multiple partners.

FORMAT19 collaborated with V21 Artspace to capture their 2019 edition, to produce a 3D Virtual Exhibition Archive of the festival exhibitions, artists and venues.
