Immersive Virtual Reality (VR) Gallery Projects
Our research began in 2017, exploring the idea of how to visualise or replicate existing artspaces using data captured from laser scanning a space for the production of 3D virtual exhibition tours. the result was a fully rendered 3D environment built in Unreal engine, to explore in HTC Vive.
In November 2018, we launched ‘Anim18: A celebration of British Animation’ featuring a 3D replica of Derby’s Quad Gallery which provides the backdrop for a digitally curated film installation, featuring 13 animations across 5 screens. The Anim18 VR Gallery was developed by V21 Artspace as a fully immersive standalone HTC Vive Virtual Reality (VR) experience, which we also made accessible online and on mobile. The success of this project lead us on to explore how to work with an existing exhibition space. We partnered with Nottingham Contemporary and with the support of The Space, V21 Artspace 3D modelled the exhibition ‘Still I Rise: Feminisms, Gender, Resistance’ Gallery 2. The 3D virtual reality (VR) interpretation was launched in November 2019. Experience this immersive, interactive, audience engaging, virtual reality (VR) exhibition and gallery HERE. Sit in the cinema and choose a film from Nottingham Contemporary’s discussion panels archive, turn on the video art, make objects move and even walk through smoke!
